Pope Francis appointed Father Joseph Huynh Van Sy as Bishop of Nha Trang diocese on May 1, 2023.
Bishop Sy was born on July 17, 1963, in Tuy Phuoc, Binh Dinh, in Qui Nhon diocese. From 1974 to 1975, he attended at Qui Nhon Primary Seminary and completed his high school studies in 1981. From 1981 to 1985, he attended Qui Nhon Pedagogical University. On May 12, 1999, he was ordained a priest by Bishop Paul Huynh Dong.
He served as in charge of the Office of the Bishopric of Qui Nhon from 1999 to 2001. From 2001 to 2006, Bishop Sy studied at the Pontifical Urbaniana University, Rome; and graduated with a canon doctoral degree.
He has also served as secretary of the bishop of the Diocese of Qui Nhon.
