Pope Francis on Mar. 25, 2023 has appointed the Reverend Peter Kieu Cong Tung, of the clergy of Thanh-Pho Ho Chi Minh, Hochiminh Ville, until now chancellor and lecturer at Saint Joseph’s Major Seminary in Hôchiminh Ville, as bishop of the diocese of Phat Diem.

Bishop Peter Kieu Cong Tung was born on 24 August 1964 in Saigon, archdiocese of Thanh-Pho Ho Chi Minh, Hochiminh Ville. He attended Saint Joseph's Major Seminary in Hochiminh Ville and was ordained a priest on 30 June 1999 for the same archdiocese.

After ordination, he first served as deputy parish priest of Bui Phat (1999-2003) and assistant lecturer at Saint Joseph’s Major Seminary in Hôchiminh Ville (2003-2004). He studied in the United States of America for a Master of Arts and Master of Sacred Music in pastoral care and sacred music at Boston College, as well as a Master of Sacred Theology in liturgy at Boston University (2004-2009). From 2009 to 2010 he served as deputy parish priest of the Cathedral and until now chancellor and lecturer at Saint Joseph’s Major Seminary.
