Pope Francis appointed Msgr. Yousaf Sohan as bishop of Multan on Dec 9, 2022.
Bishop Sohan was born on Sept 2, 1958, in Layyaha in the Multan diocese. He attended Saint Mary’s Minor Seminary in Lahore and studied philosophy and theology at the Christ the King Major Seminary in Karachi. Bishop Sohan was ordained a priest on July 3, 1985.
After ordination, Bishop Sohan served as assistant parish priest at the Cathedral of the Most Holy Redeemer in Multan (1985-1986); parish priest of the Holy Eucharist in Mian Chanu and head of La Salle School hostel (1986-1989); and assistant parish priest of Saint Joseph the Worker in Khanewal (1990-1991). He then did studies in biblical theology at the Pontifical Urban University, Rome, (1991-1992). Later, he became parish priest of Saint Peter Church in Vehari (1992-2000) and parish priest of Saint Joseph Church in Fatehpur (2001-2002). Since 2002, he was the vicar general, parish priest of Saint Joseph the Worker in Khanewal (2002-2011). He was parish priest of Our Lady of Loreto in Multan (2011-2014); parish priest of the Cathedral of the Most Holy Redeemer in Multan (2014-2016); and parish priest of the Holy Cross in Rahim Yar Khan (2016-2018).
Bishop Sohan has served as head of vocations at diocesan level, chaplain for young people, director of diocesan Caritas, director of Biblical Commissions, and the Commissions for Real Estate and Justice and Peace, and member of the National Marian Committee.
Since 2018 he has served as parish priest of the Cathedral of the Most Holy Redeemer, and a teacher at Saint Joseph’s Minor Seminary in Multan.
