Born on April 5, 1957 in Vaikom in Kerala state, Bishop Sebastian Adayanthrath had his school education at St Joseph's L.P. School and St Theresa's High School, Vaikom, from 1963 to 1973. He joined the Sacred Heart Minor Seminary of the archdiocese of Ernakulam-Angamaly on July 1, 1973. Three years later, he joined the Papal Seminary, Pune and was ordained priest on Dec 18, 1983. He holds a master's degree in theology from Jnana-Deepa Vidyapeeth, Pune. During his priestly ministry in the archdiocese, Bishop Adayanthrath served as parish priest and secretary to the late Cardinal Antony Padiyara.
Bishop Adayanthrath also worked as executive director of 'Save a Family Plan', in Canada.
His was appointed as auxiliary bishop of Ernakulam-Angamaly and titular bishop of Macriana Maggiore (in ancient Byzantium, Turkey) and was consecrated on April 20, 2002. On Aug. 30, 2019. Pope Francis appointed him as bishop of Mandya.
