Sri Lankan Church still awaits justice 4 years after Easter bombings

The Sri Lankan Catholic Church organized demonstrations all over the country to mark four years since the Easter Sunday bombings on April 20 and 21 to demand justice for the victims. Thousands of people from different faiths took part to protest the government’s failure in response to the call given by the Church. A two-minute silence was observed at 8.45am on April 21, the anniversary, in memory of the people who died in the attack. Many protesters were dressed in black and carried black flags, posters and banners.

A heavy police and military presence was observed on the streets and around churches throughout the day. Earlier, a court rejected a request by Negombo police to stop a protest march and other protest activities, saying they could be politically motivated (By Quintus Colombage).
