Bishop Oswald Joseph Lewis was born on July 30, 1944, in Mangalore diocese, southern India. He was ordained priest for Lucknow diocese on Dec. 30, 1972.
He was ordained as coadjutor bishop of Meerut diocese on April 16, 1998. He was installed as the first bishop of the newly created diocese of Jaipur on Aug. 28, 2005.
Bishop Lewis is also the president of the Labour Commission of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of India.
Pope Francis accepted his resignation on 22 April 2023.
